What Grindr is: a dating and social app, not a video site

Grindr is a location-based dating and social networking service for gay, bi, trans and queer adults. It is not a video site: there is no catalogue of scenes, only member profiles, chats and private albums. The About page says the service has run since 2009 and describes it as the world’s largest network of its kind, opened by millions of people in nearly every country. The public website grindr.com is a small set of pages: download links, About, Help, a blog, community resources and the legal documents.

Apps, the web version and what is free

The apps for iOS and Android are offered as a free download. The start page also promotes «Grindr on the Web» with the note «No download required. Available for XTRA and Unlimited subscribers only», so the browser version is part of the paid tiers. The terms name three premium services — Xtra, Unlimited and Edge — and say that the term, renewal period and total cost are shown inside the service, that pricing varies by region, bundle and duration, and that subscriptions renew automatically. The website itself showed no price list on 3 October 2026. The Unlimited page lists its features: Viewed Me, Unsend, Incognito, Typing Status, unlimited profiles, expiring photos and chat translation.

Community guidelines and the 18+ rule

The guidelines open with «Adults only (i.e., at least 18, or older in certain jurisdictions)» and state that accounts suspected of belonging to anyone younger are banned immediately. Public profile photos may not be pornographic; in private chats and albums members may share nude photos of themselves, but no images of other people without their explicit consent. Buying, selling and asking for money are not allowed, and hate, harassment and threats are listed as unacceptable.

Who runs it and how to cancel

The service belongs to Grindr LLC; the terms give a postal address in West Hollywood, California. Subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play are cancelled in that store. Disputes fall under an arbitration agreement with an opt-out, and special terms apply to residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and several other countries.
