Our review of Proton VPN
Proton VPN: Swiss VPN with a real free plan and published no-logs audits
Proton VPN is made by Proton, the Swiss company behind Proton Mail. At our check on 2 October 2026 the paid VPN Plus plan listed 20,000+ servers in 140+ countries, 10 devices at a time, streaming and P2P/BitTorrent support. Prices were shown to us in euros: €9.99 for one month, or €3.49 a month on the 2-year plan (€83.76 for the first 24 months, then €83.88 per year), with a 30-day money-back guarantee. The free plan needs no card: one device, medium speed and servers in a few randomly selected countries (10 according to the pricing page). The apps are open source; the Stealth protocol is designed to get through networks that block VPNs, and Secure Core routes traffic through servers in Switzerland, Iceland or Sweden first. Proton says its no-logs policy passed a fifth annual audit by Securitum and publishes the 2026 report openly.
Why this matters for adult-site visitors: your internet provider or a shared Wi-Fi network sees only the connection to the VPN, not which sites you open, and where adult sites are blocked a VPN may restore access — check and follow your local law. A VPN is not anonymity: the provider carries your traffic and logged-in accounts still identify you.
Our rating is 4.5 out of 5: a usable free plan, open-source apps and publicly readable audits; the free tier lets you pick neither the country nor more than one device.
